Not a great hotel. Rooms have no air con and do not get cool enough to sleep. There is no hot water in the evening. So cold shower, hot room. The fridge didn’t work so all our milk and food went off. The key cards kept failing, so you have to schlep down to the lobby and ask to fix the key again! Beds are comfy enough but expect a sleepless night if you are at all sensitive to heat. Even my wife who loves warm rooms was too hot. On the plus side: gym is ok, and restraunt was ok.

Great experience!

The check in process was so easy and fast! Alexandra and Marissa were the most friendly and welcoming! These two made my stay worthwhile and accommodated my last minute requests. The room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely be coming back!

Never again!

Never again! Not stayed here before, however on many a work occasion have stayed at the neighbouring sister hotel of ibis Stayed here as colleagues were. Initially for one night but due to work commitments had to stay an additional night and chose to be in same hotel for convenience The additional night cost over £200 and was in no way worth it Check in staff were pleasant enough although due to ‘an exercise’ my key card couldn’t be activated so I had to be physically let into my room by a member of staff. Getting to my room involved a wait at the very slow and very small lifts which I had to queue for. Went out for dinner with colleagues and had my key card activated on return so all good I assumed. Alas no. Lovely large room which was hot but what looked like AC didn’t work. No bother, I thought, I’ll open the window. I was on a street facing room which had multiple bus stops directly outside, and also had a lot of (loud) people walking past. After tired old me couldn’t sleep due to the noise, I used the QR code provided in my room to get details on hotel info and services. This took me to what appeared to be an online chat facility. After 15 mins of no response at all, I was tired and about to resign myself to no sleep, when there was a knock at my door. As a lone female I was cautious. Looking through the peephole, I saw an individual with no hotel branding or name badge but whom I recognised from check in at reception He was armed with a fan He got what I’d assumed was AC to work, and advised it’s not v effective hence he’d brought be the fan He also advised me that the online chat function (which I had no response from at all) was something internal hotel staff had to monitor/respond to and they didn’t have the ability to do as they were very busy. The fan was louder that having the window open. Bear in mind the open window made it feel as though all of Reading’s buses and inhabitants were right outside my room! Also no one at check in advised me of where or when breakfast would occur despite me being on a B&B rate, so I had to google that info myself. I’m now on night two of no sleep and would not recommend this hotel. If you don’t mind noise or heat, you’ll be fine here. But if you would like some sleep and an acceptable temperature, I’d give this place a miss.

Hot stuffy airless prison of a room and no sleep

My stay at the ovate was horrendous. It was a warm evening with strong sunlight which made the room very hot. There is no air conditioning in the hotel and the windows open a few centimetres into a deep frame so effectively they don't open at all. So a hot stuffy airless prison of a room and no sleep. I asked to change rooms and they showed me an equally hot second room. Will never stay there again.

Dear Voyager58642441356, We are truly sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience during your recent stay at Novotel Reading Centre. We apologize for the discomfort you faced due to the room temperature. Please note that our hotel does not have air conditioning as part of our sustainable practices and we have air cooling. However, we regret that we were unable to provide a cooler room for you. Your feedback is valuable, and we will address this issue internally as we have cascaded it to the Maintenance Team. We hope you would reconsider staying with us in the future to experience the improvements we make. Kind Regards, Toni Tolentino Front Office Manager Novotel Reading Centre

Rooms were clean, desk staff were helpful, location is extremely close to transport links and main street/shops/restaurants and there is an extremely handy self-service mini convenience store in the reception area for when the restaurant/bar was closed. Excellent for the price range

Your feedback on our convenient location and self-service mini convenience store is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Toni Tolentino Front Office Manager Novotel Reading Centre
